Mandarin (f) Aix galericulata
Nikon D500 ISO 2800  330mm  f8.0  1/800s

Amongst my favourite images, this shows of the female of the species looking elegant, with a touch of class,  when compared to her more striking, vividly coloured male partner

Kingfisher (m) Alcedo atthis

The "King of the River", this tiny birds are glimpsed often as they sly low across the waters surface in search of their next meal. Finding one at rest takes time and persistence, but the reward of observing them is well worth the wait.

Stonechat (m) Saxicola rubicola
Nikon D500 ISO 2200  500mm  f8.0  1/800s

These birds have a distinct song and flit from place to place amongst the gorse bushes and bracken, hardly pausing for breath until they perch and sing.

These tiny birds are not easily seen and harder still to capture as they scuttle up and down the higher reaches of tall, hugging the trees trunk. I felt very lucky to get this opportunity.

Grey Heron  (x) x

This moment made an otherwise quiet afternoon by the lake watching my wife and son fish all the more worthwhile. For a large bird, the Grey Heron is very nimble when it needs to be!

Taken while on holiday in the Lake District, this portrait perfectly captures the beauty of these tiny, beautifully coloured birds
